Friends of the Festival,
in our normal impro performances ( insomuch as you can call impro normal as it is almost always a bit of a festival) we have great respect for the suggestions that you, our generous audience, provide us with every show. If we ask for a tool, then chances are you call out hammer. If we request a profession, butcher is a front runner with barber and baker not far behind, and if we ask for an author, Shakespeare is always on the tip of your tongue.
And that’s good, as a certain Klaus Wowereit would say, because we love to improvise in the style of the most popular and well known playwrights. However, this being the 10th anniversary of our festival, we wanted to dig a little deeper and explore the work of other notable playwrights, aside from the great Shakespeare. We asked our esteemed colleagues from all over the world if they would be interested in exploring this idea as well. The response was a resounding YES! So this year our experienced festival cast of world renowned improvisers will present in the style of their favorite authors...

All these groups will work together as part of the festival ensemble, but will also each have a chance to showcase the style of their favorite playwright individually in the second part of the festival.
What you get is a festival of improvisational theater, in the truest sense of the word! But that’s not all we’ve got lined up. We’ve got: SpeakEasy with ImprovPoetry from Vancouver where jazz meets improv, Grand Prix, The Big Seven Int. Ed., Open Stage, a new show format: The Game, and of course Ladies Night. And for the first time in four years we’re bringing back our Grand Opening Show. We know we will enjoy a few extravagances opening night, and we will be celebrating somewhere other than our home theatre, the Ratibor. Our first evening of the festival (and also the second for Noodt is the Father of Invention) will take place in the Heimathafen Neukölln, where we’ve been performing now for over a year.
We also want to tackle the themes of improvising a bit theoretically. Therefore, we invite you to join us for two panel discussions. And of course there are workshops focusing on: a lot of words, little words and a lot of theater.

Die Gorillas
LIEBE FREUNDE DES FESTIVALS,
in unserem Impro-Alltag (insofern man beim Improvisieren von Alltag sprechen kann, es ist eigentlich immer ein Fest) gibt es bei den von uns erbetenen Vorschläge Favoriten bezüglich der Antworten, die Ihr, geneigtes Publikum, uns macht. Wenn man nach einem Werkzeug fragt, kommt mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit »Hammer«, bei einem Beruf liegen »Metzger«, »Friseur« und »Bäcker« gut im Rennen, und wenn wir nach einem Autoren fragen - dann fällt der Name »Shakespeare« mit Abstand am häufigsten.
Und das ist auch gut so, würde ein bekannter Sohn unserer Stadt sagen, denn wir improvisieren sehr gerne im Stil des beliebtesten und bekanntesten aller Dramatiker. Das hat uns aber Lust gemacht, zum 10jährigen Festival-Jubiläum uns auch einmal mit anderen großen Dichtern zu befassen. Und wir haben besonders hoch geschätzte Kollegen in aller Welt gefragt, ob sie dazu nicht auch Lust hätten. Die Resonanz hätte nicht positiver sein können, und so kommen einige dem erfahrenen Festival-Besucher bestens bekannte Gruppen, um ihren Lieblingsautoren vorzustellen.

All diese Gruppen werden einmal als Ensemble zu erleben sein, und im zweiten Teil des Festivals wird jeweils eine Auswahl aus allen Festivalteilnehmern im Stile dieser Dramatiker improvisieren.
Ein Festival des Improvisations-Theaters also, im bisher wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Wat ja nu nich heißen tut, es gäb nix anders. Gibt es: SpeakEasy mit ImprovPoetry aus Vancouver, Jazz meets Impro, Grand Prix, Das große Sieben Int. Ed., Open Stage, ein neues Show-Format: Das Spiel, und - na logo: Weibershow. Und übrigens das erste Mal seit vier Jahren wieder nur eine Eröffnungsshow. Wir hatten mal wieder Lust auf eine überschäumende Opulenz zu Beginn, und da die Erfüllung dieses Wunsches die Bühne unseres Stammhauses Ratibor sprengen würde, ziehen wir für den ersten Abend (sowie auch für den zweiten: Noodt macht erfinderisch) in den Heimathafen Neukölln, den wir nun auch schon seit über einem Jahr bespielen.
Außerdem wollen wir uns mit dem Thema Improvisieren ein wenig theoretisch beschäftigen. Deswegen laden wir ein zu zwei Podiumsdiskussionen. Und selbstverständlich gibt es Workshops, mit den Schwerpunkten: viele Worte, wenig Worte, viel Theater.
