Storytelling:
Truth in improv

With Naomi Snieckus (National Theatre of the World, Toronto/Canada)

Improvisation is more than a mere tool: it is an art form. Silence on stage for instance is something to be explored and celebrated, rather than feared, as Naomi shows in her workshop. She focusses on the challenge to surrender to the truth and the heart of the scenes. Naomi presents ways and means for various genres to »playfully find« the underlying truths of the scenes. This workshop is seeking the actor behind the improv player.

Character: extreme types,
whimsical beings,
truthful figures

With Inbal Lori (Tel Aviv/Israel)

Inbal concentrates on how you can find characters through improvisation; characters which you may not have thought of yet but which you have in yourself. What you do with those characters and what they do with you, how you can discover and develop them, play scenes with them and tell stories - is what the impressive Israeli actress will show in her workshop.

Prerequisite: several years of improv experience.

Location: Atelier für physisches Theater, Urbanstraße 116,

Bodies: creating dramatic
tension with physical offers

With Tomaz Lapajne (Kolektiv Narobov, Ljubljana/ Slovenia)

When we improvise scenes, we tend to impart information to the audience and to fellow players verbally. But physical actions and reactions can have a much higher emotional value, thus creating more dramatic tension. A strong physical expression will give the audience more scope to identify with the characters and their conflicts, thus getting more involved in the play. The aim of the workshop is to work on precise physical expressions and to explore which physical offers and reactions can increase suspense on stage.

Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of improv theatre.

Location: Kreatango, Obentrautstraße 35, Berlin-Kreuzberg
