BIF Week 2014
Get personal. Be serious. Go Wild!
It’s all about you. The focus of BIF week and BIF days in 2014 is you, the improviser. The core of our program is how to use your story more intensely for your acting than before, to develop deeper characters through sincerity and to allow free play to yourself. Thus, the program takes up the slogan of IMPRO 2014: say yes – to yourself.
At BIF days, you can choose one of the three offered workshops, at BIF week you don’t have to decide - here, all three workshops are included in the program. BIF week has a length of seven and BIF days a length of four days, both happen during IMPRO 2014 which runs March 21st to 30th. The BIF program offers improvisers from all over the world the opportunity to collect impressions, impulses and make new contacts at one of the biggest festivals of this kind. In mixing workshops, shows and specials like a panel, BIF reaches even more improvisers that gather in Berlin to network, improve their skills and last but not least have loads of fun!

Workshop contents
Get personal
Patti Stiles, Impro Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia
When
improvising and searching for material to shape our characters and
scenes, we sometimes end up stuck in stereotypes - while the source for
inspiration is so close! We can use ourselves, our strengths and
weaknesses, our experiences, our encounters with others. But how can we
be inspired by our own story? Patti shows you ways to enrich your
improvisation by reflecting your own (hi)story.
Patti Stiles is
improv director, teacher and actress. No other woman teaches as much and
successfully as Patti. She intensely worked with the inventor of
Theatresports, Keith Johnstone, and was Artistic Director of the Rapid
Fire Theatre (Edmonton).
- Basic skills in improvisation are necessary, preferably a minimum of two years of improv experience.
Be serious
Eugen Gerein, The Koenigs International, Mannheim, Germany
Improv
is generally known as a fast-paced, light theatre genre. Many of us who
are improvising for a longer time, are searching for more depth in
their improvisation – something different from the easy and funny
scenes. Performing in serious, dramatic scenes is not only a challenge
for the player, it also goes against the expectation of the audience.
But if you can endure it, there's a great veracity emerging from the
power and suspense of serious scenes. And of course, true comedy always
has an earnest core.
Eugen Gerein is actor and theatre-teacher and
studied at the State Acting-Academy in Sankt Petersburg. Eugen brought
improv theatre to Russia. He was the team captain of the Russian
National Team at the Theatresports Worldcup in 2006. He teaches at the
University for Music and performing Arts in Stuttgart.
- Basic skills in improvisation are necessary, preferably a minimum of two years of improv experience.
Go Wild!
Jeron Dewulf, De Improfeten, Antwerpen, Belgium
Let
yourself go, set yourself free. You know that it is impossible getting
blocked? It is just in your mind! It is even fun to say no and to know
that the stage is still full of ideas and inspiration. How to see them,
use them and become a player that can deal with the biggest surprises on
stage: Absolute freedom, Go Wild!
Jeron Dewulf has put his twenty
years of improv experience in this workshop. He has been teaching it to
experienced players as well as to improv beginners. No rules but tools.
Improv can really set you free.
- Basic skills in improvisation are necessary, preferably a minimum of two
